The necessity for sustainability
How will SIP1 address the challenge?
By leveraging the Farmtopia software modules to enhance the gaiasense Smart Farming solution, SIP1 will offer low-cost, high-quality advice on irrigation and fertilisation. This will be achieved through the establishment of a regional-wide infrastructure of IoT weather stations to achieve economies of scale and by combining multiple data types of different spatial and temporal analysis to increase accuracy. Furthermore, the controlled exchange of sensor recordings, farm advice and regional data (benchmarking) among the AgriCoop members will further support their actions in the field.
The business and governance model to be followed by SIP1, aims for partnerships with farmer cooperatives and well-connected local agronomists and food companies to gain a) local agronomic support and b) access to large numbers of farmers, achieving economies of scale. This allows NP, the Smart Farming services provider, to cover the infrastructure cost on its own and offer the service to farmers as a low-cost annual subscription.
The measurable results expected from SIP1 are a 15% reduction in water consumption, a 10% reduction in fertiliser use and a 10% reduction in production costs.
