Constraints in Small Mushroom Farms
Small and medium-sized oyster mushroom farms, constrained by limited financial resources, face the daunting task of enhancing their production processes, optimising protocols, and maximising yields. These challenges encompass efficiently managing inputs, controlling environmental schedules, and closely monitoring mushroom production, all while striving to minimise input costs.
Nurturing Smaller Oyster Mushroom Farms: What will SIP 2 do?
An integrated solution for real-time monitoring of crop growth and control of mushroom yield will be applied using optimal environmental schedules and production protocols together with a user-friendly interface to increase usability. Additionally, SIP2 will incorporate a sensor network for environmental monitoring, camera-based technology, advanced analytics, a visualisation dashboard, and AI for decision support. A variety of data types with different spatial and temporal characteristics will be used to enhance the accuracy of the system.
The business and governance model envisioned for SIP2 is geared towards addressing a substantial need for affordable integrated solutions tailored to small farms, given the absence of such offerings in the current market. This model centres around Software as a Service (SaaS) with a cost-effective approach for both initial investment and ongoing system maintenance.
The measurable results expected from SIP2 are reduction of production costs: ≥15%, reduction of energy consumption: ≥10% and increase of profitability: ≥10%
