Small Vineyards Challenges
Vineyards in the EU are largely managed by small-scale farmers, with over 80% of holdings smaller than 1 hectare. While Agricultural Digital Solutions (ADS) can improve vineyard management by providing real-time data on soil, weather and vine health, small owners still face challenges including high advisory costs, limited digital literacy, general lack of trust in precision agriculture technologies and labor shortages.
F@F Addressing Challenges
Building on the proven Winessense ADS, F@F integrates OpenWeatherMap data and Farmtopia’s Digital Field Book to create an affordable hybrid advisory platform for small vineyard owners (<10 ha) that allows seamless collaboration between small farmers and external consultants. Fellow@Field aims to fix the huge talent gap in viticulture. The system also provides to farmers: Real-time weather forecasts and disease prediction alerts; Chemical treatment calculators for sustainable pest management (https://atfield.tech/spraying-calculator/ ); Photo diaries for visual monitoring of vineyard health with agronomist recommendations via an intuitive web and mobile interface.
F@F co-creates, tests, and validates the platform through partnerships with Atfield Technologies and BRKIĆ Vineyard. The model ensures the platform is affordable, practical, and scalable, leveraging modular APIs and collaboration with cooperatives and extension services to target adoption across Central and Southeast Europe. Expected Results: ≥15% reduction in chemical treatments; ≥20% fewer vineyard visits.
