Smart Research and Development International SRL (SmartRDI) is an official spin-off company of MobyLab, the Research Group on Distributed Systems of the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers, University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest (UPB). Their mission is to offer Innovation on Cloud/Mobile Computing and IoT, with actions on fundamental and applied research, leading innovation to market. SmartRDI is a technical partner with actions spanning multiple projects with a focus on agri-tech: development and design of a European data space for agriculture (AgriDataSpace) – a European framework for a secure and trustworthy data space in agriculture (part of the Advisory Board). It also focuses on the development of the Smart Platform to engage rural communities and pursue public-private interactions to develop new social practices (FUTURAL). One of its focuses is also connecting the dots to unleash the innovation potential for digital transformation of the European agri-food sector (SmartAgriHubs) through the development of IoT technology for monitoring live stocks, using BLE devices and smartphones coupled to a national livestock database.
Role in the project:
SmartRDI is the technology provider and, as such, focuses on the research, design and implementation for the technical solution in Sustainable Innovation Pilot 7 (SIP 7) – a real-time animal welfare monitoring and control system with seamless integration into existing farm practices for dairy farms. Digital technologies in focus will be IoT sensors, tracking custom-designed enabled digital ear tags, decision support system, and a user platform.
