The necessity for sustainability - Challenges in Plum Farming
Frequent fluctuations in environmental and weather conditions are just one of the challenges plum growers are facing. Water scarcity, the need for micro-zone drip irrigation, and the requirement for high-quality fruit production further complicate operations. Traditional monitoring systems often provide only current-status data, lacking predictive capabilities, but also dealing with unusual situations, which are necessary for optimal decision-making.
How will Smart4Plums help?
Smart4Plums introduces an AI-driven ADS that combines soil sensor data, historical farm data, and weather forecasts to predict irrigation scheduling. The system uses data-fusion algorithms to predict water needs for each micro-zone in the orchard and integrates Farmtopia components such as the Digital Field Book and Data Integration Module for seamless farm management. By providing real-time monitoring, predictive planning, and actionable irrigation recommendations, Smart4Plums ensures optimal water use, consistent fruit quality, and reduced operational costs.
By providing a novel Unusuality detection method, main advantage is the possibility to react on unusual situations, beyond the predefined rule-based recommendations.
One of the objectives is to enable business development and join the exploitation of the SIP ADS. Results expected: New revenue streams through data-driven optimization; reduction of operational costs by improving irrigation, fertilization, and labor efficiency; increased consumer trust; Empowerment of workers and small farmers.
