Sustainable Citrus and Olive Production
Adoption of Variable Rate Technologies (VRT) in citrus and olive orchards is still very limited, especially among small and medium-sized farmers in Andalusia. Most farmers find these systems too complicated, with different machinery brands that don’t work together, low digital skills, and no easy way to create prescription maps directly in the field, so many give up before even trying. This project addresses this issue by providing a simple tool that enables farmers to generate and use prescription maps directly from the tractor. This makes variable-rate application finally accessible, helping improve efficiency, sustainability, and profitability in real farm scenarios.
How will SprayBus address the challenge?
SPRAYBUS introduces an in situ, brand-agnostic ADS system that connects to any tractor via ISOBUS and allows farmers to create prescription maps directly in the field. By utilising Farmtopia’s reusable components, such as the Digital Field Book and Data Integration Module, the system will automate task documentation, enable real-time data sharing, and support real-time decision-making, drastically simplifying the adoption of precision spraying.
Business and governance mode to be followed: SPRAYBUS will be co-created and validated jointly by the ADS provider and pilot farm, advancing toward TRL 8. Results expected: Achieve more farm profitability, improved operational efficiency, and enhanced digital inclusion and resilience for small and medium-sized farms, addressing both immediate and long-term needs in agri-food sector.
