Farmtopia focuses on a key challenge in the digital transformation of agriculture: ensuring that digital innovation is not only developed but actually works for the people who use it. The project is empowering small-scale farmers by testing and demonstrating Agricultural Digital Solutions (ADSs) through Sustainable Innovation Pilots across Europe. These solutions cover practical needs ranging from farm management and crop production to livestock-related applications. The approach is strongly farmer-centred. Instead of treating digitalisation as a one-size-fits-all process, Farmtopia works with farmers and other stakeholders to identify their needs, test solutions in real-world conditions and explore business models that can support their long-term uptake. Building resilience against heat stress
For livestock farmers, however, digitalisation is only part of the challenge.
Climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of heat stress events, creating new pressures for animal health, welfare, productivity and farm management. This is one of the challenges addressed by SheepHeatIT.
The project focuses on helping the sheep sector respond to heat stress by combining research, genetics, phenotyping, data and digital technologies.
