Digital technologies are rapidly reshaping agriculture across Europe, creating new opportunities for efficiency, sustainability, and resilience. Yet, for many smallholder farmers, access to digital innovation remains uneven due to barriers related to affordability, infrastructure, digital skills, trust, and data governance.
To address these challenges and contribute to a more inclusive digital transition, the Farmtopia project is organising the Policy Workshop on Technology Code of Conduct & Policy Pathways for Smallholder Digital Inclusion, taking place on Friday, 12 June 2026, from 09:30 to 13:00 CET at the Copa-Cogeca premises in Brussels.
The workshop will be held in a hybrid format, allowing participants to join either in person or online.
Bringing together EU policymakers, researchers, agricultural organisations, digital innovation actors, and stakeholders from across the agricultural ecosystem, the event will create space for dialogue on how digital technologies can better respond to the realities and needs of smallholder farmers across Europe.
A central focus of the workshop will be the introduction and discussion of Farmtopia’s proposed Code of Conduct for Technology Use and Data Governance in Agriculture. The initiative aims to support fair, transparent, and responsible digitalisation practices while contributing to policy discussions around equitable access to digital tools and services in agriculture.
Throughout the workshop, participants will explore practical policy pathways for supporting digital uptake, discuss existing gaps and opportunities within the agricultural innovation landscape, and exchange perspectives on how Europe can foster a more inclusive and trustworthy digital farming ecosystem.
