On 13 – 14 May 2026, the Farmtopia consortium gathered for its 6th Plenary Meeting, hosted by University College Dublin in a hybrid format. The meeting brought together partners from across Europe, both in person and online, for two intensive and collaborative days dedicated to reviewing project progress, exchanging experiences, and aligning the final steps towards successful project completion.
This plenary meeting represented an especially important milestone for Farmtopia, as it was the first time that the entire consortium gathered together within one meeting framework, including Work Package leaders, pre-selected Sustainable Innovation Pilots (SIPs), Open Call SIPs, Ethics Advisors, communication teams, technical partners, and project management representatives.

Large-scale Horizon Europe projects such as Farmtopia involve numerous organisations, countries, expertise areas, and pilot activities. While day-to-day collaboration happens continuously online, plenary meetings provide an essential opportunity for all partners to come together, strengthen connections, and collectively reflect on the project’s progress and future direction.
These meetings are not only important for project coordination and reporting, but also for building stronger collaboration between technical developers, researchers, farmers, SMEs, innovation hubs, communication teams, and pilot leaders. By bringing all project actors into the same space, plenary meetings help ensure that innovation activities remain connected and aligned with the overall project vision.
For Farmtopia, whose mission focuses on accelerating the adoption of digital agriculture solutions through collaboration and farmer-centred innovation, this type of exchange is particularly valuable.
Two Days Dedicated to Collaboration and Progress
The plenary meeting agenda covered all major areas of the project, providing partners with a comprehensive overview of activities and achievements across the Farmtopia ecosystem.
Throughout the two days, dedicated sessions were organised for all Work Packages, focusing on:
- Digital solutions and technological development
- Business and governance models
- Piloting activities in real farming conditions
- Ecosystem building and expansion
- Communication, dissemination, and stakeholder engagement
- Ethics requirements and advisory processes
- Financial and project management activities
Partners reviewed completed milestones, discussed ongoing work, addressed upcoming tasks, and aligned preparations for the project’s final reporting and review activities.
Spotlight on Sustainable Innovation Pilots (SIPs)
One of the central highlights of the meeting was the presentation of updates from both Internal SIPs and Open Call SIPs.
Representatives from the pilot activities shared progress related to:
- Farmer feedback and user engagement
- ADS co-development and newly introduced functionalities
- Integration and testing of Farmtopia services
- Pilot implementation progress and results
- Open Day planning and stakeholder outreach
- Upcoming activities for the final phase of the project
These presentations demonstrated the diversity of agricultural sectors, technologies, and regional approaches involved in Farmtopia. From precision farming tools and digital advisory systems to sustainability-oriented innovations and data-driven agricultural management solutions, the SIP sessions showcased the broad impact potential of the project.
The inclusion of Open Call beneficiaries also added a valuable new dimension to the plenary meeting, enabling stronger integration between newly onboarded innovators and the wider consortium network.
Recognising the People Behind the Project
The success of a collaborative European project depends not only on technology and innovation, but also on the dedication of the people involved.
The consortium expressed strong appreciation to the hosting team at University College Dublin for the excellent organisation and coordination of the meeting.
Special recognition also goes to the Farmtopia Project Coordinator Dionysios Solomos for his leadership, guidance, and continuous commitment in steering the project towards its successful conclusion.
At the same time, gratitude was extended to all consortium partners for their active participation, collaboration, expertise, and ongoing contributions across all project activities.
Final Phase of Farmtopia
As Farmtopia enters its final phase, the consortium remains focused on delivering impactful results that support the digital transformation of European agriculture.
The discussions held during the plenary meeting reinforced the shared commitment of all partners to continue advancing innovative digital solutions that are practical, sustainable, and farmer-centred.
In the coming months, Farmtopia will continue sharing project results, pilot activities, Open Days, demonstrations, and success stories from across Europe.
